DESCRIPTION
Jason is of a little above average height with a solid build. He looks younger than his age, despite the difficult training of his vocation. He has brown hair just past his shoulders, brown eyes, and a smooth, clean-shaven face. When not in his armor, he is dressed simply: a cotton shirt, long pants, and sturdy boots. At his belt at all times is his warhammer, a gift from his mentor. The broad-headed hammer bears the symbol of Apollo etched in inlaid gold on both striking faces, and has a titanite stone set into the top.
PERSONALITY
Jason joined the temple of Apollo to help people, just as they had helped his own father when he was young, and he still holds on to that ideal; joining the Titanite Society has given him a way to do so on a grand scale. He is not usually a man of many words. He leaves that to the people who seem to enjoy it, since he prefers actions to speech anyways. Instead of preaching his faith he simply lives it, helping any in need regardless of their beliefs. However, he’s not reckless or impulsive in providing this help.
HISTORY
Jason is the youngest child in his family, with two brothers and two sisters. As a child he helped in his family’s fur business, as everyone did… but it never held his interest. Instead, he found himself drawn to the order of Apollo. The order had a temple in the area, and offered their healing services to the surrounding countryside. When Jason was young, one of the clerics was nearby and was able to save his father after a horrible accident while preparing some of the furs. Jason was inspired by this act, as only a 10-year-old can be: “OH WOW THAT’S SO COOL I WANT TO BE THAT STRONG WHEN I GROW UP AND HELP SAVE PEOPLE TOO!”

Most children grow out of this phase, putting aside their willow-switch “wands” and their thick fallen branch “swords” to take up a normal life – but not Jason. Instead, he “played” with even more determination. When the clerics came back in the late fall to pick up furs for winter, which they were offered in return for saving his father, Jason asked them how he could train to be just like them. After some chuckles from everybody in the room – including his parents, who told him to stop bothering their guests – they realized he was serious. The visiting clerics told him about the grueling training, and when he was undeterred, they sat down with his parents to discuss the process. As the youngest child in the family, he was the right age to begin training, and the shop was already running smoothly with everyone else working. Much of the payment for training would be covered by his duties as an acolyte, but not all… so his parents did the math and found they were able to scrape up enough to enroll him at the temple.

Training at the temple was both spiritual and martial, as Apollo is a healer and purifier of not just illness in mankind, but of evil in the world. Jason’s youthful exuberance was slowly replaced by a strong determination, fueled by the memory of his father’s healing and by the other good that he saw the order accomplish. He learned that not all aid is healing – there is also defending, and it was there that he excelled. It was during the martial training that Jason caught the eye of the instructor, Cyril Agiostas, a paladin. Cyril was the leader of the paladins in the region and saw that even as a youth of only 16, all gangly limbs, Jason had an aptitude for combat. Cyril arranged for progressively more difficult training, and when Jason was able to meet the challenges, he was invited to specialize his training as a holy warrior. Jason saw this opportunity to be a healer and defender as a great honor, and agreed. From then on he served as Captain Agiostas’ squire. He spent the next 8 years studying the finer points of combat and religion, properly caring for horses and for armor and weapons, healing wounds, and even diplomacy and etiquette.

After his knighting ceremony, he served as a healer and guard in the region. Though he could not channel divine magic to heal wounds, he was proficient with the herbs and poultices in his healer’s kit, and would help the locals with any bandit troubles. Unbeknownst to him, he was being watched and judged as he worked.

Agiostas was a member of the Titanite Society. He retired from active service many years before, and settled down at the temple where he had once trained so he could train others. He also kept an eye out for new talent whose dispositions matched the Society. Jason was one of those he was watching. Cyril approached him at the temple and asked him if he was interested in doing some real good. Of course, like a good barrister, he already knew the answer before he ever asked the question. That evening Cyril told Jason a bit about the Society and their goals, and Jason was of course all for it. His training was to take place at a small camp in the nearby woods, so he went to visit his family to let them know he’d be away for some time.

It was on this visit that he learned of his brother Gwarryn’s dream and newfound connection to nature. He knew this could not be a coincidence – the timing of the gods’ intervention with his own imminent induction into the Titanite Society – and consulted with Cyril. He agreed to meet with Gwarryn; after that meeting he agreed that the hands of the gods were at work here and was willing to sponsor him as a Society member.

Jason and Gwarryn went to the camp together, where they met with Corbin Thresher and Wraya, Daughter of Apollo and were trained in the ways of the Titanite Society. Before they left on a mission of great importance, Cyril returned to the camp to see Jason off and give him a gift: an enchanted warhammer with an inlaid titanite stone, which he had himself carried in his service to the Society.

The four traveled to the Surly Bison tavern in Wayford, where they were to meet others from another training camp…
